level them up

Yesterday's Lit extra lesson turned out to be a massive scam. I arrived half an hour late, and the lesson had not begun. Then Ms Veera ran through the freshly returned essays, which was useful I suppose, but from all the way at the back of B52 I couldn't see much. It then proceeded to end before 11am, which probably upset Hoang more than the rest of us, since he only managed to sit in for 20 minutes of lesson.

Strangely enough, it just so happened that I was next to Guowei who was next to Byap who was next to Shi De who was next to Jacky who was next to Paul. When the lesson ended and we all spilled out into the corridor we made a largely unanimous decision to have an impromptu 4L class lunch, just for old times' sake.

4L was never very bonded at all. We had out good times, with Interclass soccer and class chalet and things like that, and as much as we don't have many Events nowadays, 4L peeps can always be counted on for a spur of the moment "reunion".

Yesterday was all about old times.

Walking to J8, being laddish, teasing each other playfully, jaywalking at Bishan St 21, eating at S11, ordering prawn noodles and adding in enough chilli powder to scare all at the table.

And that's where the fun comes in.

I used to eat those prawn noodles pretty regularly, but then I stopped having friday afternoons with Shaun Lau, and I'm usually too busy/lazy to go out of school for lunch. So I suppose my chilli tolerance is lower? Anyway, I too got killed.

It was so bad that sweat was dripping off my face, onto my spectacles, and I think that's why it tastes so great. Seasoned with sweat. Ok disgusting nvm. I know it was the chilli because only my face was sweating, everywhere else was comfortably dry.

Byap only tried a drop and could tell that it was bad.

So we finish eating and we're talking about NS and things, and old times, and telling rumors about each other's overly exaggerated love lives, when we decide to play TRUTH OR SOUP, which involves going round the table, asking painfully personal questions. If you don't answer, you have to drink soup.

I'd say it went well! All of us went for bubble tea after that.

At self training, Mr Tang asked if we were competing in Interschools this sunday. Apparently he's still taking signups. So there it is, our last ever competition this Sunday. I'm just glad TBAC isn't going to be my last comp as an RJ archer.

Today was our first school training in ages, with coach back from his Europe trip. 50 euros a night, he said, for a hotel in Italy. 3 meals a day.

I'm "doing okay", as usual. I should shoot well this sunday, unless TBAC happens again. TBAC was really about the atmosphere, I think. And the fact that nobody other than TzeYang Beck and I seemed to have actually prepared for it. Really made me unsettled and very very disappointed.

Ken asked me to try out V-Bars, which are little rods made out of carbon/aluminum that help me to be more stable. Hehehe. Surprisingly manageable, but I might tire quicker. Considering this weekend is 6 arrows per end and 72 in total, I may not last.

In any case, training's going awesomely. I just need to accept that in an individual sport I will never feel the same sense of unity, or bonding, or shared purpose, or the same collective search for Excellence.

I'm aiming for 290/360 per end this weekend, but I will focus on GOOD SHOTS rather than GREAT SCORES and I am DESTINED FOR GREATNESS.

And then I will really get down to mugging damn hard. I promise.
